Since I arrived in Atoifi I had the wish to go up the mountain. So when I had the opportunity to join a clinic team to visit a village up there I did not miss it.
We had an about one and a half hour quite steep hike through gardens and tropical forest.
Almost there. You can see the ocean down below. We started down there!
Coming into the village. You can see that they live more primitive than those down at the coast.
The children there see white peolpe very, very, very seldom!

Rachel a nurse did some vaccinations for the little babies in the village.
And this is the magnificent view on the way back! You can see Atoifi down there.The whole trip was a really good exercise, and you get a feel how it is to walk on muddy and slippery paths ;)
